Role of the Bumfidel in Sesame Street

In the original broadcast from the USA, there were not only the well-known puppet scenes but also real films from everyday life for American children. The German makers of Sesame Street found this too far removed from the world of German children. In addition, the figure of Oscar in the garbage can in particular provoked vehement protests from parents. So the figure of a boy with the unusual name Bumfidel was developed . Director Jan Harloff played a key role in these stories. From 1976 Markus Krüger played this boy who grew up alone with his mother (played by Ingeburg Kanstein ) in Hamburg.
