Markus Ries

Markus Ries (born May 5, 1959 in Frauenfeld ) is a Swiss church historian .

Life

Ries studied from 1980 to 1985 theology at the universities of Lucerne and Friborg . From 1986 to 1990 he was a research assistant at the Theological Faculty of the University of Munich . In Munich, he received his doctorate in 1990 with a study on the reorganization of the diocese of Basel at the beginning of the 19th century Dr. theol. From 1990 to 1994 he worked as an archivist for the Basel diocese in Solothurn . Since 1994 he has been Professor of Church History at the University of Lucerne . From 2009 to 2016 he was involved with Edmund Arens , Martin Baumann , Antonius Liedhegener and Wolfgang W. Müller in the university research focus "Religion and Social Integration in Europe" (DIRECTOR).
