Markus Tuscher
Karl Markus Tuscher also Carl Marcus (baptized June 1, 1705 in Nuremberg ; † January 6, 1751 in Copenhagen ) was a German painter and engraver .
Life
Tuscher's date of birth is unknown. His father's name was either Ferdinand Tuscher or Ferdinand Tischer. Markus Tuscher stayed in the care of his mother for four or five years, after which she took him to a foundling house in Nuremberg, where he made his first attempts at drawing. The “caretaker” of the foundling house, Carl Benedict Geuder von Heroldsberg , became aware of Tuscher and sent him to Johannes Daniel Preisler, part of a family of painters and publishers in Nuremberg, who taught him. Markus Tuscher was tutored by Preisler for ten years, then, in 1728, Tuscher traveled to Italy on a scholarship from his home country . In Rome he made the acquaintance of the art collector Philipp von Stosch . At the same time, Markus Tuscher worked as a stone cutter . He planned to return to Germany with Johann Justin Preisler, son of Johann Daniel Preisler, but in 1734 he was accepted into the company of Baron von Stosch and stayed there for four years. In 1740 Tuscher traveled to Florence . For another four years, Tuscher was busy in London preparing the Egyptian travel book of his friend Friedrich Ludwig Norden for publication and adding copperplate engravings. Eventually Tuscher moved to Copenhagen , where he became a professor and royal court painter . Tuscher probably came up with the idea of the octagonal square in Frederiksstaden , now known as Amalienborg .
