Markus Weiner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Markus Weiner (* in Weißkirchen ; † January 21, 1565 in Lambach ) was the 49th abbot of Kremsmünster Abbey .

Weiner was elected Abbot of Kremsmünster in 1558 . At his request, Emperor Ferdinand granted Kremsmünster Abbey in 1561 the high hunt, which had previously been reserved for the sovereign .

When Weiner died in 1565, he was buried in Lambach Abbey. The place of his burial - a different monastery - even much later gave some chroniclers reason to believe that Weiner had been removed from his office in the course of a monastery visitation in 1563 and transferred to Lambach. It was the time of the Reformation when the understanding of monastic life decreased. There were also rumors that Weiner was married and held a public wedding in the monastery.
