Markus Philipp Zehnder

Markus Philipp Zehnder (* 1964 in Basel ) is a Swiss Protestant theologian who has been teaching Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew at the Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in La Mirada , California , since 2016 .

Life

Markus Philipp Zehnder attended high school at the Kohlenberg in Basel from 1975 to 1983 . From 1983 to 1990 he studied theology at the University of Basel and the University of Bern . From 1990 to 1991 he completed a vicariate in the Evangelical Reformed Church in Riehen . He did his doctoral studies under the Old Testament scholar and Semitic linguist Ernst Jenni and wrote his dissertation on the subject of path metaphors in the Old Testament. From 1995 to 1998 he was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Synod of Basel-Stadt. From 1996 to 1998 he taught the Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew at the Theological-Diaconal Seminar in Aarau . From 2004 to 2017 he was a lecturer for the Old Testament at the Theological Faculty of the University of Basel. From 2005 to 2006 he was professor for the Old Testament at the Ewersbach Theological Seminary . From 2006 to 2016 he was Professor of Biblical Studies at Ansgar Theological College and Seminary in Kristiansand , Norway , and has also been Co-Director of the Norwegian Summer Academy for Biblical Studies there since 2012. From 2008 to 2009 he was a Research Fellow at the German University of Bochum on the subject of "Dynamics in the history of religion between Asia and Europe". From 2013 to 2016 he held the chair for the Old Testament at the Protestant Theological Faculty in Leuven , Belgium . Since 2016 he has been professor of Old Testament and Semitic Languages ​​at the Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in La Mirada near Los Angeles .
