Markward II of Bickenbach
Marquard or Markward II. Von Bickenbach (* before 1245, † after 1288) was prince abbot of the Fulda monastery from 1286 to 1288 .
origin
His parents were Gottfried I. von Bickenbach (* 1211–41, † before 1245) and Agnes († before 1254), daughter of the wild count Konrad II of Dhaun (1194–1263).
career
He was first dean of the monastery. The day after his benediction , the collegiate church fell victim to a devastating fire. The relics of St. Boniface and St. Sturmius , founders of the monastery, were saved. In his two-year reign he tried to improve the order of the monastery by tightening discipline and to secure the abbey properties against external enemies through various measures.
The prince abbot destroyed Steinau Castle in Steinau near Petersberg and acquired the Fischberg and Neidhartshausen castles .
He is said to have been poisoned.
