Marlena Zagoni , until 1977 Marlena Predescu , (born January 22, 1951 in Lucieni , Dâmbovița district ) is a former Romanian rower who won an Olympic bronze medal in eighth place in 1980 .

Athletic career

The 1.71 m tall Marlena Predescu finished eighth in double sculls at the 1973 European Championships in Moscow with Doina Bardas . Two years later she rowed with Marilena Ghita in two without a helmsman and won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Nottingham . In 1976, Predescu and Marinela Maxim reached the final in two without a helmsman at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and took sixth place. In 1977 she reached fourth place with Angelica Chertic in a two-man without helmsman at the World Championships in Amsterdam .

In 1978 Chertic and Zagoni finished fifth in the two- mans without at the World Championships in New Zealand . In 1979 Marlena Zagoni moved to eighth, who finished fourth at the World Championships in Bled , behind the boats from the USSR, the GDR and the United States. The following year, because of the Olympic boycott, the eighth from the United States was not at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . The Romanian eighth with Angelica Aposteanu , Marlena Zagoni, Rodica Frîntu , Florica Bucur , Rodica Puscatu , Ana Iliuță , Maria Constantinescu , Elena Bondar and helmsman Elena Dobrițoiu won the bronze medal behind the boats from the GDR and the USSR.
