Marlene von Gemmingen , b. Marlene Steup (born September 25, 1910 in Remscheid ; † 2003 ) was a fashion designer, author and painter.

Life

She lived in the forester's house in Kreuzle from 1946 until the 1960s

She was the daughter of the manager Ludwig Steup and his wife Paula Kirschner. She spent her childhood and youth in Remscheid and studied at the applied arts school in Wuppertal . Then she worked as a fashion designer for large companies. On July 25, 1940, she married the officer Weiprecht von Gemmingen (1916–1987) in Neckarzimmern , with whom she initially lived in Gundelsheim , before the family moved into the Kreuzle forester's lodge, founded in 1811 by Gemmingen's Maienfels Castle in 1946 . The marriage had the children Udo (* 1941), today's lord of the castle on Maienfels, and Isabella (* 1943). From the 1960s onwards, she renounced her previous obligations and turned to free art, where she was particularly inspired by Art brut . She found sponsors with the couple Franz and Brita zu Knyphausen at Remseck Castle near Neckarrems , who had previously sponsored Lothar Schall and who made it possible for her to have her first solo exhibition at Remseck Castle in 1969. The marriage with Weiprecht von Gemmingen was divorced in Heilbronn in 1970 . Marlene von Gemmingen moved to Munich , where she worked as a freelance artist into old age. In 1992 she wrote an autobiography.
