history

The Neckarrems district was probably settled around 3000 years ago. A Roman manor has been well researched archaeologically.

The present-day location was probably created as a result of the construction of Rems Castle . The original name of the place as well as the castle was simply Rems , the prefix Neckar - was added later. The first reliable documentary mention of the castle and the place was in the year 1268. At this time Neckarrems was already part of Württemberg . The castle lost its importance over time and fell into disrepair. In its place, Remseck Castle was built in the mid-19th century .

A mill on the Rems has been documented since 1350. The current building dates back to 1966 and is now used to generate electricity. The Michael Sebastian Church was built between 1486 and 1498.

In 1736, a Neckar bridge was first built between Neckarrems and Neckargröningen . In 1939 the bridge was demolished in the course of straightening the Neckar and replaced by a new building, which was destroyed again in 1945 by Wehrmacht troops . The new bridge was finally inaugurated in 1951.

The old town hall of Neckarrems has been occupied since 1755 and was given a decorative half-timbered facade in 1913. In 1971 close was the Remsmündung on Hechtkopf built a new town hall, the town hall of the newly created municipality and today since 1975 district town serves Remseck.

coat of arms

Blazon : In blue, two diagonally crossed silver fish with their heads pointing upwards, in between a five-pointed, fallen silver star.

The fish referred to fishing, which used to be an important branch of the town's livelihood. The star was taken from the coat of arms of the former local nobility. The Ministry of the Interior was awarded the coat of arms on November 23, 1956.
