The Moroccan disc beater ( Discoglossus scovazzi ) is a species of amphibian from the genus of the real disc beater , which is native to Morocco .

distribution and habitat

The Moroccan disc beater lives on the North African Mediterranean coast and its range is limited to the Moroccan national territory and the two Spanish exclaves Ceuta and Melilla . There may be other occurrences in western Algeria , but these have not been confirmed.

In the Atlas Mountains , the animal habitat reaches heights of up to 2600 meters. Like its relatives, the Moroccan disc beater is strongly bound to water and therefore lives in the area of ​​flowing and smaller stagnant waters, some of which can also be brackish . The terrestrial habitats include oak forests, oleander hedges, and ruins, with individuals often hiding under stones.

Systematics

The Moroccan disc beater is classified as a species within the real disc beater ( Discoglossus ). Until 2004 it was treated as a subspecies of the painted disc lobster ( D. pictus ).

Danger

The Moroccan Disc-is in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN "not at risk" ( "least concern") classified because it has a relatively large circulation area, a large tolerance to habitat changes has, and a relatively large total population is considered.
