Marquard (* around 1100 in Pruntrut ; † May 6, 1142 in Wilten ) was the first abbot of Wilten Abbey in Tyrol . He is  venerated as a blessed in the Catholic Church . His feast day is May 6th.

Life

The Marquard, who came from Pruntrut in Switzerland, was a Premonstratensian in the Rot an der Rot monastery and a student of St. Norbert . According to tradition, he was sent by him to Wilten around the year 1128 in order to take over an existing collegiate foundation for the Premonstratensian order at the request of Bishop Reginbert von Brixen . In 1138 Pope Innocent II confirmed the new settlement and Marquard as the first abbot. The focus of Marquard's work was pastoral care and new evangelization . He died on May 6, 1142 "in the name of a blessed". His grave in the Wilten collegiate church was widely visited and venerated by the people, at the intercession of the deceased and by touching his bones, the sick are said to have been healed. His bones were raised during renovation work in 1639 and initially buried in the Holy Cross Chapel. Since the new collegiate church was built in 1651–1665, they have been in a shrine behind the high altar.
