Couples happy (Original title: Married People ) is an American sitcom with 18 episodes, which ran from 1990 to 1991 on ABC . The German-language first broadcast was from February 29, 1992 to June 1992 (every Saturday evening) on Der Kabelkanal , the forerunner of kabel eins . This made the series one of the first programs on the new station; the first episode was broadcast on the first day of broadcast.
content
The series describes the lives of three couples who live in the same house in Manhattan . The black couple Nick and Olivia Williams, who have been married for a long time and who own the house, live on the ground floor. Above them live the freelance journalist Russell Meyers and his wife, the lawyer Elizabeth. Newly moved in, newlyweds Allen and Cindy Campbell live at the top; while he is studying at the university, she works as a waitress, but has a dream of becoming a dancer.
The humor of the series develops from the conflicts between the three couples, who belong to three different generations and have different ideas about life.
reception
Although the series received critical acclaim, it only achieved low ratings. Therefore, it was discontinued in March 1991 after the 18th episode. In 1991 the series won an Emmy in the Outstanding Technical Direction / Camera / Video for a Series category.
