The Marshall Bennett Islands are a group of islands in the Solomon Sea . Politically, the islands belong to the Milne Bay Province of Papua New Guinea . They are 40 km west of Woodlark Island and 80 km east of the Trobriand Islands .

In addition to the oval main island of Gawa , 4.3 km long and 3.3 km wide, there are Dugumenu , Iwa (Jouveney Island) and Kwaiawata . Except for Dugumenu, an uninhabited shallow coral reef island , all islands are inhabited upscale atolls .
The atoll Egum further south is also often included in the archipelago, with the largest islands Yanaba (Ianaba, 7.75 km²) and Wiakau (0.57 km²) in the north. Other islands are Napasa, a nameless island and Tabunagora (9 ha ) in the northeast, Nagian (5 ha) in the east, Digaragara in the northwest, and Egum (18 ha), Mua, Fandaio, Simlakita and Nasakori (Panamote) in the lagoon . Yanaba and Egum are inhabited. The land area of the islands in the Egum Atoll is around 2 km², of which the lion's share is in Yanaba.

history
The archipelago was discovered by Robert L. Hunter in November 1836 and named after his whaling ship, the Marshall Bennett .
