geography

The Ebro electricity system

The Martín rises in the mountains of the Sierra de San Just in the municipality of Martín del Río in the Comarca Cuencas Mineras as the confluence of the Río de la Rambla and the Río de las Parras. Almost 2 km below, the Río Vivel is added as the third source river. The Río Martín runs through the valley of Montalbán and then a narrow valley with the towns of Peñarroyas , Obón and Alcaine (Teruel) . It then flows into the Embalse de Cueva Foradada reservoir, built in 1926, which it leaves at the town of Oliete . From here, the course runs in a north-easterly direction through the Sierra de Arcos and then past Albalate del Arzobispo and Hijar towards its confluence with the Ebro at Escatrón .

Parque Cultural del Río Martín

In the middle course of the river, above Albalate del Arzobispo, lies the Parque Cultural del Río Martín with cave paintings that were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 as prehistoric rock paintings in eastern Spain .
