Marten Cumberland

Marten Cumberland (* 1892 in London , † 1972 ) was a British journalist and writer.

Life

After graduating from high school, Cumberland joined the Royal Navy and went to sea for over six years. During the First World War he acted as a naval radio operator . After the war he quit his military service and worked as a journalist for various newspapers and radio stations.

Cumberland lived in Paris for many years and settled in Ireland shortly before his death in 1972 .

In addition to his own name, Cumberland also used the pseudonym Kevin O'Hara . He worked several times as an editor and his literary oeuvre consisted mostly (over 60 volumes) of detective novels . As a protagonist, he invented “Commissaire Saturnin Sax”, which contemporary literary criticism has often compared to Georges Simenon'sCommissioner Maigret ”. In addition, he published some dramas and radio plays , but with which he could hardly achieve success.
