Martha Haake

Martha Pauline Haake (born May 19, 1915 in Frankfurt (Oder) ; † unknown) was a guard and nurse in the Ravensbrück concentration camp .

Life

Martha Haake, a trained nurse, was a member of the Reich Association of German Sisters from 1940. After serving in several hospitals, Haake was transferred to the Ravensbrück concentration camp as a nurse on August 1, 1943. There she worked as a head nurse in the newly established Block 9, in which surgical patients lay. From autumn 1944 onwards she acted as head nurse in blocks 7 and 8. At the instructions of doctor Richard Trommer, in mid-January 1945 she commissioned a prisoner nurse to administer veronal to patients in block 10 who were suffering from insomnia . According to her own statements, she was unable to provide any information about subsequent deaths because she fell ill the next day.

After the end of the war, Haake was charged with the mistreatment and killing of Allied nationals in the HamburgCuriohaus ” before a British military court in the fourth Ravensbrück Trial and sentenced to ten years in prison for mistreating Allied women prisoners. This judgment was confirmed on July 3, 1948.

Martha Haake was released early from prison on January 1, 1951 for health reasons. Nothing is known about her further life.
