Martha Maria Newes , also Martha Maria Müller-Newes , (born March 12, 1894 in Graz , Austria-Hungary ; † May 6, 1984 in Munich , Federal Republic of Germany ) was a German stage and film actress .

Live and act

Tilly Wedekind's sister had received her artistic training as a teenager and was on stage in Innsbruck when she was 18. The most important years of her still young acting career followed from 1913 to the 1920s, when Martha Maria Newes was brought in by Otto Falckenberg to the Münchner Kammerspiele, which he directed . It was there that Newes met his colleague (actor, director and general manager) Hans Carl Müller , whom she married in 1916. The actress, who has since performed under Martha Maria Müller-Newes from time to time, followed her husband to his obligations and only appeared on stage at irregular intervals. From the 1920s until shortly before the start of the war in 1939, they were seen at Berlin venues, including the Saltenburg theaters , the theater in Stresemannstrasse and the small theater.

During the interwar years, the artist sporadically appeared in front of the camera in small roles - right at the beginning, in 1919, together with husband Müller in King Nicolo , a film adaptation of the play of the same name by her brother-in-law Frank Wedekind - without, however, leaving a major impression. After the war, Martha Maria Müller-Newes hardly accepted a permanent engagement. From the late 1950s until the next decade she found employment at the Theater der Jugend , where she was on stage with him at the time of her husband's death in 1960. After retiring into private life, Martha Maria Müller-Newes stayed in Munich until the end, where she died in 1984 at the age of 90.
