Martha Stewart (born October 7, 1922 in Bardwell , Carlisle County , Kentucky ) is an American singer and actress .

Life

Stewart graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn , New York . She began her career as a nightclub singer in the 1930s and performed as a choir girl for Glenn Miller and Claude Thornhill , among others .

In the 1940s and 1950s Martha Stewart played in several Hollywood productions , in particular she appeared in musicals . After her big screen debut in Doll Face , she had her first major role as Lou Lou in I wonder who's kissing her now for 20th Century Fox . Probably her best-known film is the noir classic A Lonely Place by Nicholas Ray , in which she portrayed the murder victim. In addition, she was seen in numerous television shows, including as co-host in Those Two (1952–1953). In addition, she continued to appear as a stage singer, including on the side of the Blackburn Twins .

At one of her nightclub appearances, Stewart met the entertainer Joe E. Lewis , whom she married on March 31, 1946 in Miami . The marriage ended in divorce in 1948 due to Lewis' drinking problems. In The Joker is Wild (1957), a film about Lewis' life, Stewart is played by Mitzi Gaynor .

In August 1949 Martha Stewart married her fellow actor George O'Hanlon in Santa Monica , with whom she had starred in "Are You With It" in 1948. The marriage was also divorced in 1951. In 1952 she married David Shelley, with whom she remained married until his death in 1982 and had three children. Martha Stewart now lives in California, a death report from 2012 turned out to be a hoax.
