Martien Meiland

Martien Meiland (born August 26, 1961 in Noordwijkerhout ) is a Dutch furniture retailer , reality show participant and television presenter .

life and work

Martien Meiland has been blind in his right eye since childhood due to an accident with scissors. After finishing school he worked as a hairdresser, cook and salesman. From 1995 to 2006 he initially ran a furniture store on his own, then from 2010 to 2018 with his daughter in Noordwijk . Meiland achieved notoriety through his participation in the reality television show Ik vertrek ( German  I go ), in which Meiland and his family built a new life in France in 2007 . Here they had bought a castle and converted it into bed and breakfast accommodation. Two years later the family returned to the Netherlands .

In 2019, Talpa Media shot the reality series Chateau Meiland with the Meiland family , in which the conversion of a castle into a bed and breakfast was again the subject of the discussion. The series is shown in the Netherlands on SBS6 and in Belgium on VIJF tv . For the show, Meiland was awarded the Dutch television award Gouden Televizier-Ring in October 2019 . Meiland has been writing a column for the weekly Privé since July 2019 . In September 2019 he appeared as a member of the jury in the program Ranking the Stars on RTL 5 . Since October 2019, Meiland has hosted the TV series Cash or Trash on SBS6, a Dutch adaptation of Bares for Rares .

Private

Martien and Erica Meiland married in June 1985, their relationship had two daughters. After 26 years, the couple divorced, after Martien Meiland outed had. The couple remarried in January 2019.
