Martin Achleitner
Martin Achleitner (* 1823 ; † April 6, 1882 ) was a "water supervisor" in Munich .
The hydraulic engineer Achleitner held the position of lock keeper at the Mühlbach lock in the Au district . In fulfillment of a vow in Harlaching in 1865/66, he built the Marienklause , a small wooden chapel, out of the abundant Nagelfluh rock and spruce trunks on the steep face of the Isar slope .
With the building he wanted to thank the Mother of God for having "saved him from death several times" . So she saved him from the floods of the Isar and rockfalls from the neighboring steep slope. A small spring, called Jakobsbrunn, rises below the chapel, which Achleitner took and integrated into the ensemble. Achleitner also created the first paths over the Isar slope in Harlaching.
Not far from the slope, a street was named after Achleitner by the city of Munich in 1900. The Marienklause is used by the Deanery Giesing for Mary processions.
