Martin Biesel

Martin Biesel (* 1962 ) is a German former political official . From November 2009 to July 2011 he was State Secretary in the Federal Foreign Office .

education and profession

Biesel studied political science , history and German at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn and completed his studies with a Magister Artium (MA).

In 1991/92 Biesel worked in the policy department in the FDP federal office, before he became a consultant for international relations of the FDP for two years in 1992. From 1993 he headed the office of Werner Hoyer (1993–1994) and Guido Westerwelle (1994–1998). From 1995 he was also head of the politics and strategy department of the FDP federal office . After moving to the private sector as Senior Manager for Government and Political Affairs at EADS in 1999 , he became Managing Director of “Bürgerfonds für Deutschland” in 2001. From 2002 Biesel worked again as Guido Westerwelles' office manager.

In 2009, Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle appointed him to the Foreign Office as State Secretary. After Westerwelle had given up his position as Vice Chancellor , Biesel left the Foreign Office to switch to the private sector. His post in the Foreign Office was canceled.

On November 1, 2011, Biesel succeeded Matthias von Randow as Director of International Traffic Law and authorized representative of the Executive Board for Politics at Air Berlin . He left Air Berlin on October 1, 2016. Biesel has been Secretary General of the Westerwelle Foundation since February 2017 .

He is married and has one child.
