Martin Goebel (born March 11, 1953 ) was a football player in the GDR upper league . In the top soccer class of the GDR he played for FC Carl Zeiss Jena . Goebel won the FDGB soccer cup twice and played five international youth games.

Athletic career

Goebel began his football career with the sports community Mittel summer . From there he moved to the company sports club Empor Bad Langensalza , which delegated him to FC Carl Zeiss Jena in 1969. In Jena Goebel played in the junior league until he reached the age limit for men (18 years). Two months before his 19th birthday, he was used for the first time in the GDR Oberliga. He made his debut there on the 14th match day of the 1971/72 season on January 8, 1972 in the league game Vorwärts Stralsund - FC Carl Zeiss (1-0), when he was substituted on in the 79th minute. After another substitution on the 15th matchday, Goebel completed another six league games by the end of the season, in which he was used as a midfielder for the full 90 minutes. For FC Carl Zeiss, the season ended with the final of the GDR soccer cup , which the Jena team won with Goebel as the central midfielder with a 2-1 victory over Dynamo Dresden.

In the following seasons 1972/73 and 1973/74, Goebel continued to play as a midfielder with 18 and 20 league point games as a regular at FC Carl Zeiss. Between 1972 and 1973 he was also used in five internationals of the GDR youth national team. At the end of the 1973/74 season, Goebel won the GDR soccer cup for the second time after beating Dynamo Dresden 3-1 in the final. With the 1974/75 season the success curve at Goebel declined. While he was able to play 15 league games in this season, there were only two missions in 1975/76. A year later Goebel did not play in the league at all and only played a single game in the league in the 1977/78 season. It was the match of the fourth match day on September 3, 1977 1. FC Union Berlin - FC Carl Zeiss (1-0), in which Goebel came on in the 33rd minute. For the only 24-year-old, it was the last league game. In his six-year senior league career, Goebel played 64 first division games with two goals, 17 games for the FDGB Cup with four goals and six games in the European Cup.
