Martin Hoi

Martin Hoi (born October 25, 1974 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian strength athlete . Hoi is national champion, Austrian champion, national champion, RID and multiple Guinness world record holder in various acts of strength. He was a competitive athlete at the World Team Championships in Strongman .

Life

Martin Hoi grew up in Klagenfurt. After the AHS he made the general diploma for the DGKP , a year later he completed the psychiatric diploma for the DGKP. He works in psychiatry at Klagenfurt Clinic . Hoi is a certified bodybuilding instructor, fruit tree and water supervisor; He is with the Carinthian Mountain Rescue and founder and chairman of the strength sports forge St. Georgen am Längsee . He also organized and organized weight training events such as the Hoilympics, national championships in bench press and truck pulling, but also national and international Special Olympics weight training events. Since his earliest childhood, Hoi has been involved in breeding small animals. Martin Hoi has lived with his wife and their children in the St. Veit an der Glan district since 2004 .

Athletic career

Hoi started playing soccer at the age of 6, and at 10 he switched to athletics as a short and medium distance runner. He played in handball and basketball clubs until he was 16 and successfully competed in squash and cross-country skiing competitions . At 17 he tried kickboxing , but after a few months he switched to football and started strength training in the gym.

In 1995, Hoi first took part in the national bench press championships . Although his training colleagues advised against participating, he was able to assert himself at the event and secure the national championship title. Hoi started successfully in this discipline in the following years and only took first places at various ÖVK events .

In 1995 Hoi also started stone lifting , a sport that is very popular in southern Germany and in which he was able to celebrate some successes. Because of these achievements, Hoi was invited by Norbert Wallauch to the Austrian Giants of Big Otto Wanz in 1996 . Although he was nominated as a substitute only two weeks before the event, Hoi finished in 6th place.

In the period from 1996 to 2007, Martin Hoi took part in over 200 strongman events at home and abroad. Thomas Schlieske, long-time friend and companion of Martin Hoi and current manager, founded the Austrian armwrestling association with Hoi in 2002, in which Hoi took over the function of honorary president and started as a competitive athlete on national and international level. With the 3rd place at the international tournament 2005 in Faak am See , during the Harley-Davidson meeting, Hoi ended his arm wrestling career.

In February 2020, Martin Hoi was welcomed by Governor Dr. Peter Kaiser was awarded a certificate of honor for the state of Carinthia for his special sporting services in weight training.

Records

Martin Hoi achieved his first world record in 1999 when he pulled the Gurktalbahn with 25 tons in Pöckstein, St. Veit an der Glan, 20 meters behind him with only muscle power.

In 2001 Hoi was awarded a certificate for holding a bungee jumper by Guinness World Records for the first time, and in the same year he received his second award from Guinness World Records as the strongest ship puller.

Since 2012 he has expanded his world record shows and founded the x-treme Carinthia team for this purpose. Hoi appears on his record shows under his show name "Carinthian Steel Man"; he is considered the strongest man in Carinthia. In 2013, Hoi and his friend and supervisor Klaus Grascher founded the St. Georgen am Längsee strength training company. The association was included in the ÖVK.

In 2016, Hoi was again awarded two Guinness World Records certificates. Hoi started in 2017 at the state truck pulling championships and became state champion. His most spectacular power events of 2017 include pulling a truck over 30 meters with just one finger, pulling the MS Landskron 80 meters upstream or towing ice skaters and their cars on the frozen Längsee.

In 2018 Hoi broke the record in steel bar bending, he bent 10 steel bars in a time of 1.33 minutes so that they fit together exactly.

In 2018, Martin Hoi from the Rekord-Institut für Deutschland (RID) received the world record for the greatest distance covered when pulling down a flying helicopter with pure muscle power. Hoi also received the world record for the heaviest runner in a quarter marathon. With a total weight of 214.5 kg, Hoi covered the distance in 2 hours 24 minutes 45 seconds. The extreme strength athlete set another world record by achieving the longest rowing distance (290 meters) while pulling a 100-ton ship.

In 2019, Martin Hoi received seven more world record recognitions from the Record Institute for Germany. These include u. a. the heaviest weight dragged on ice, the fastest pulling of a car over a distance of 10 kilometers, as well as the longest aircraft take-off delay with the hands.

The Record Institute for Germany (RID) honored Martin Hoi with three more world records in September 2019. Hoi received a world record for pulling a truck with one finger over a distance of 30 meters. Furthermore, Hoi was awarded for the longest distance holding a water skier at the WAKE THE LAKE festival. RID confirmed a world record for Hoi when the strength athlete pulled the book boat of the Chamber of Labor of Carinthia, swimming across Lake Wörthersee, 42 meters behind him on August 5, 2019.

On January 21, 2020, Martin Hoi in Filzmoos set the world record for the heaviest weight when pulling down a hot air balloon when he pulled a hot air balloon 20 meters to the ground with a pulling weight of 200 kg using only muscle power.
