Martin Hollý senior

Martin Hollý (born June 8, 1904 in Moravské Lieskové , then Austria-Hungary , † October 1, 1965 in Žilina ) was a Slovak actor and theater director .

Life

Martin Hollý was born in 1904 as the son of the playwright and Lutheran pastor Jozef Hollý (1879–1912). His sister was the artist Elena Hollá-Holéczyová (1906–1983). After his training and first jobs as an employee, he turned to acting in the 1930s. At the end of the Second World War he took part in the Slovak National Uprising .

After the end of the war he worked as an actor and director at the theater. Sporadically he also took on film roles. He was seen in the 1965 Oscar-winning drama The Business on Hauptstraße in the role of Imro Kuchar .

He was the father of the director Martin Hollý junior .
