Martin Köttering

Martin Köttering (* 1964 in Lingen / Ems ) has been President of the Hamburg University of Fine Arts since 2002 .

Life

Martin Köttering studied cultural studies and aesthetic practice at the University of Hildesheim and fine arts in Bath , England. He then worked as assistant to Jan Hoet (as head of DOCUMENTA IX ) and as a consultant for art and cultural projects in Hamburg. In 1995 Martin Köttering took over the management of the Städtische Galerie Nordhorn and the open museum kunstwegen . As part of this activity, he conceived and realized numerous artistic projects in public spaces as well as exhibitions with internationally renowned artists (including Fischli / Weiss , Dan Graham , Jenny Holzer , Ilya Kabakov , Tobias Rehberger , Andreas Slominski , Franz Erhard Walther ).

Martin Köttering has been President of the Hamburg University of Fine Arts since 2002 . In 2008 and 2014 he was re-elected. During his tenure, the university developed the following content-related focal points with a well-known college beyond the focus of artistic practice: the artistic-scientific orientation with a focus on theory and history, the possibility of doctorates and a graduate college; an interdisciplinary profile with the introduction of the bachelor's and master's degree in "Fine Arts"; the promotion of international networking by founding and expanding the Art School Alliance with renowned partners in Europe, China and the USA; as well as the commitment of internationally known artists as professors to the HFBK Hamburg, whereby the university has an almost equal number of female and male teachers.
