Martin Kallmann (born June 4, 1867 in Nakel ; † November 29, 1911 in Berlin ) was a German electrical engineer and the first city electrician in Berlin.

Life

Kallmann graduated from university at the age of 17, studied mathematics and physics at the University of Heidelberg and then at the University of Berlin . During his studies in Berlin he worked under Hermann von Helmholtz and gave exercises and laboratory courses at the Technical University of Charlottenburg . In 1885 , Kallmann received his doctorate from the University of Halle with a thesis on "The generation of sounds through electricity".

Kallmann then worked for AEG ( Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft ) and its subsidiary, Berliner Elektricitäts-Werken (BEW, later BEWAG ) as a company electrician. Here he distinguished himself through work and inventions that were important for the electricity company. In 1893 the city of Berlin offered him the newly created office of city electrician in Berlin . From 1901 Kallmann also taught electrical engineering with a focus on operational and safety technology at the Royal Technical University of Berlin , first as a private lecturer , from November 1907 as a professor .

After a long illness, Kallmann died in Berlin at the age of 44.
