Martin Lang (ancient orientalist)

Martin Lang (* 1971 ) is an Austrian ancient orientalist .

Life

After graduating from Meinhardinum Stams in 1989, he studied specialist theology and the languages ​​and cultures of the ancient Orient in Innsbruck . From 1995 to 2002 he was professionally active in youth work in the church-social environment. From 2003 to 2005 he taught as a research assistant in training at the Institute for Biblical Studies and Historical Theology at the University of Innsbruck , where he received his doctorate in the Old Testament in 2003 . From 2005 to 2009 he worked part-time at the Institute for Biblical Studies and Historical Theology and at the Institute for Ancient History and Ancient Near Eastern Studies. In 2009 he took on a full-time position as a university assistant at the Institute for Ancient History and Ancient Near Eastern Studies and in 2012 a position with a career path . After completing his habilitation in 2016 with the habilitation thesis The cuneiform tradition of the Flood Tale: A History of Tradition and Literature , he was appointed Associate Professor of Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the Institute for Ancient History and Ancient Near Eastern Studies.

His main research interests are cuneiform texts and ritual studies, ancient oriental law, literary history of ancient oriental literatures, ancient oriental traditions and the Old Testament, oriental heritage in Christian-oriental tradition and Sumerian lexicography.
