Richard Lawson Phelps junior (born April 19, 1961 in Gloucester ) is a former British modern pentathlon .
Career
Phelps participated in four Olympic Games . His first participation in 1984 in Los Angeles , he finished fourth in singles . He finished seventh with the team. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , he finished sixth in the individual, with the team he won the bronze medal . In addition to Phelps, Graham Brookhouse and Dominic Mahony were part of the British squad. In 1992 in Barcelona he reached 13th place in the individual, the team classification ended for Great Britain in sixth place. In his fourth and last participation, 1996 in Atlanta , he was 18th in the singles.
He won his first medal at world championships in 1987 with 3rd place in the team competition with Graham Brookhouse and Dominic Mahony. In 1994 he was runner-up in the same discipline with Brookhouse and Greg Whyte . The year before he had celebrated the greatest success of his career when he became world champion in singles .
His uncle Robert Phelps was also a pentathlete and multiple Olympian. He took part in the Olympic Games in 1964 , 1968 and 1972 .
