Martin Miller (manufacturer, 1769)

Martin Miller , actually Martin Mühler (born April 28, 1769 in Vienna , † April 21, 1833 in St. Aegyd ) was an Austrian steel goods manufacturer.

Life

He came from the Mühler family of blacksmiths who immigrated from Franconia . He went to England as a journeyman and called himself Miller on his return. In 1804 he put Austria's first crucible steel furnace into operation in Gumpendorf . In 1825 he and Daniel Fischer bought a forge in St. Aegyd and built a steel mill there.

The Millergasse in the 6th district of Vienna, Mariahilf is named after him and his descendants.
