Martin Monk

Martin Monk (* 1985 in Berlin ) is a German screenwriter and film director .

Life

Monk originally studied cultural studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin with Hartmut Böhme . He then went to the Vienna Film Academy , where he studied directing with Michael Haneke as a master’s degree.

In 2019 he was represented with the short film Favoriten, made in Vienna, at the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival in the Cinéfondation student competition.

In addition, Favoriten was on the shortlist for the Austrian Film Prize 2020 and received the FBW title of particularly valuable. The film ran in the competition for the Max Ophüls Prize , just like Monk's previous short film Alpha Girls.

Monk lives and works in Berlin .
