Martin Morgenstern (philosopher)

Martin Morgenstern (born December 15, 1953 in Niederkirchen ) is a German philosopher and non-fiction author .

life and work

Morgenstern studied philosophy and German in Heidelberg and Saarbrücken . After his legal clerkship, he worked as a teacher at the Diakonisches Werk an der Saar. In 1984 he received his doctorate with a study on "Schopenhauer's Philosophy of Natural Science", in which he examined the importance of Schopenhauer for modern philosophy of science . From 1992 to 1998 he was a lecturer at Saarland University . Since 2002 he has been working in the school service of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Since the 1990s, Morgenstern and Robert Zimmer published introductions and textbooks on philosophy and its history as well as biographical works on Karl Popper and Hans Albert , the two main representatives of critical rationalism . He dedicated two introductory books to Nicolai Hartmann and edited the posthumous Hartmann manuscripts of the Marxist Wolfgang Harich , who was persecuted in the GDR . Morgenstern presented an overview of the most important trends in metaphysics in the 19th and 20th centuries in his book Metaphysics in Modernity . Morgenstern is co-editor of the philosophical journal Enlightenment and Criticism .
