Martin Olsen Schøyen
Martin Olsen Schøyen (born June 26, 1896 in Eidsvoll , Akershus , † May 31, 1962 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian businessman. He was the founder and owner of Ingeniør MO Schøyens Bilcentral AS, Norway's largest bus company. He founded the Schøyen Collection , which is the largest private manuscript collection in the world today.
Life
Martin Olsen Schøyen was born to Ole Martin Olsen and Alette Schøyen. He became an engineer. In 1919 he founded his first transport company during a transport workers' strike. In 1922 he married Eva Johanson. In 1923 he founded Ingeniør MO Schøyens Bilcentraler AS, which in the following decades became Norway's largest bus company.
He began to establish a collection of old and valuable manuscripts. After his death in 1962, his son Martin Schøyen took over the bus company and the collection.
