Martin Pfaff

Martin Pfaff (born March 31, 1939 in Tevel , Tolna County , Hungary ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and professor emeritus at the University of Augsburg . From 1990 to 2002 he was a member of the German Bundestag. Pfaff is married to the professor of economics Anita Bose-Pfaff , daughter of the Indian freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose .

Life

After graduating from high school, Pfaff studied in India, which he completed in 1961 with a Bachelor of Commerce. In 1963 he then completed his MBA . During his student years, from 1958 to 1962, he was involved as a volunteer treasurer and employee of two schools for the blind in India.

Academic career

From 1965 to 1974 he worked as a university lecturer at various universities in the USA. Since 1971 he has also held the chair for economics at the University of Augsburg. He was the founder and scientific director of the International Institute for Empirical Social Economy (INIFES). From 1985 to 1990 he was also a member of the Advisory Council for Concerted Action in Health Care . His main research interests are transfer economics, distribution and social policy, urban and regional research and health economics. He is the author and editor of several books, monographs and numerous articles in the fields of social policy, labor market policy, financial policy, environmental policy, educational policy, and communal social and infrastructure policy.

politics

Pfaff became a member of the SPD's local association Hochfeld in 1976 and soon afterwards became an assessor in the local association and subdistrict board, as well as chairman of the SPD subdistrict of Augsburg and of the SPD regional board of Swabia. He was a member of the Working Group of Social Democrats in Health Care (ASG) and has been the national chairman of the ASG since 1994. In 1990 Pfaff was elected to the German Bundestag, to which he belonged for three legislative periods until 2002.
