Martin Sørby

Martin Sørby (born February 28, 1963 ) is a Norwegian diplomat . He has been the Norwegian ambassador to the Netherlands since 2016 .

Life

Martin Sørby attended secondary school in Berg, a part of the Oslo district of Nordre Aker . He completed his law studies at the University of Oslo in 1990 as cand.jur. In the same year he studied one semester of Spanish at the University of Granada . From 1990 to 1992 he was a consultant in the Norwegian Ministry of Commerce.

He is married and has two children.

Diplomatic career

He joined the foreign service in 1992. His first assignment abroad took him from 1994 to 1997 as second secretary to the embassy in Madrid , then from 1997 to 2000 first as second secretary and then as deputy head of mission at the embassy in Abu Dhabi . From 2001 to 2005 he was division manager in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs , from 2005 to 2016 department director there.

Since August 2016, he has succeeded Anniken Ramberg Krutnes as the Norwegian ambassador in The Hague , co-accredited for Luxembourg .
