Martin Schmidt-Kessel

Martin Schmidt-Kessel (born December 12, 1967 in Cologne ) is a German legal scholar .

Life

After graduating from high school in Karlsruhe , Schmidt-Kessel studied law from 1988 to 1993 at the Universities of Freiburg , Munich and Cologne . From 1993 to 1998 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Comparative and International Private Law at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. From 1998 to 2003 he was a research assistant at the University of Freiburg, initially at the Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, and from March 2001 at the Institute for Business Law, Labor and Social Security Law. In 2001 Schmidt-Kessel received his doctorate and in 2003 he completed his habilitation.

In the same year he received a call to the chair of Civil Law , Comparative Law , European and International Private Law at the University of Osnabrück , which he accepted of 2004. He was director of the European Legal Studies Institute at the University of Osnabrück. In 2009 he turned down an offer at the University of Marburg . In 2010 he was offered a position at the University of Bayreuth , which he accepted on October 1, 2010. Since 2007 he has also been a regular visiting professor at the Università degli Studi di Verona.

Schmidt-Kessel headed the multi-year research project on the European free gift law and contract in Europe , which was financed by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation . He was also the spokesman for the Research Center for European Service Law at the University of Osnabrück. Since summer 2011 he has been director of the research center for consumer law at the University of Bayreuth.

Martin Schmidt-Kessel has been a member of the Catholic student association AV Hansea (Berlin) in Cologne since 1990 and a member of the Catholic student association KdStV Falkenstein (Freiburg) since 1998, both in the CV .
