Martin Wahl (biologist)

Martin Wahl (* 1955 in Boppard ) is a German biologist . He is professor for marine ecology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel .

Martin Wahl studied biology and geology up to the intermediate diploma at the University of Perpignan and zoology, cf. morphology, phylogeny, physiology, biochemistry and ecology in the main course at the University of Montpellier . He then studied marine science at the University of Kiel. From 1983 to 1987 he did his doctorate on behalf of the University of Kiel at the Laboratoire Arago of the University of Paris VI in Banyuls / Mer on the anti-epibiosis defense in sea squirts ( ascidia).

After completing his doctorate, he became a scientific employee in Kiel and worked at the Zoological Institute of the University of Kiel until 1997 . This was followed by postdoc stays at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego , California and at the Institute of Marine Sciences in Morehead City , New York. In 1996 Wahl received his habilitation in the field of zoology at the University of Kiel. Since 2002 he has been Professor of Marine Ecology at the Institute for Marine Sciences ( IFM-GEOMAR ) Kiel.

Since 1998 he has also worked as an appraiser. He works as a reviewer for the journals " Marine Biology " and " Biofouling ", as well as for the International Science Foundation (USA).

Wahl conducts research on anti-fouling , benthic ecology and chemical ecology . He is the director of the GAME master program at GEOMAR.
