Martinskirche in Kleingartach

The Evangelical Martinskirche in Kleingartach , a district of Eppingen in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , was first mentioned in 1109 and has numerous frescoes from the 15th century inside. It belongs to the Evangelical Parish of Kleingartach in the Brackenheim parish of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

history

The patronage of St. Martin points out that the church, first mentioned in 1109, is very old. After Kleingartach had become an independent parish , the nave was renovated in 1468 in the late Gothic style and was painted with pictures from the history of salvation and the life and passion of Christ. The frescoes were whitewashed during an iconoclasm in the 16th century. In 1721 galleries were drawn in and the windows of the church changed. In 1929 the tower was renewed. In 1955 the church was damaged by lightning and had to be extensively renovated, exposing the whitewashed frescoes.

Bells

Until the First World War, there was a three-bell bell in the bell tower of St. Martin's Church, which had been documented since 1714 at the latest, and later changed several times. Two bells had to be delivered during the First World War. In 1920 a steel bell was added on the occasion of the installation of a church clock. In 1929 the parish procured a new bronze three-bell chime, of which two bells had to be delivered again during World War II, so that only one bell, cast by Heinrich Kurtz in Stuttgart in 1929, remained on the tower. On a generous donation from Berta Walder-Weissert, six new bells were procured from Kurtz in Stuttgart in 1948, which, together with the remaining bell from 1929, form today's seven-part peal. There are five of the seven bells in the church tower, the other two ring from the bell tower of the nearby town hall.
