The Akaflieg München Mü 26 is a single-seat glider of the student flying group Akaflieg München in a composite construction with a pendulum V-tail .

history

The Mü 26 was originally developed as a variant of the Mü 22 under the name Mü 22d . The prototype successfully completed its maiden flight at Oberpfaffenhofen airfield in July 1971 . In 1984 the aircraft was destroyed in an accident and then rebuilt after years of work.

construction

The characteristic V-tail suggests a relationship to the Mü 22 . The fuselage does not consist of a covered tubular steel construction, but of balsa wood coated with fiberglass-reinforced plastic . An attempt was made to keep the cross-sectional area and thus the resistance as small as possible by using the “cigar-shaped” hull . As a result, the pilot in the Mü 26 is in an extremely horizontal lying position.

As with the Mü 22, a classic wooden construction was used for the wings , albeit with a narrower rib spacing and full planking.

use

The Mü 26 is stationed at the Königsdorf gliding center .
