The Akaflieg München Mü 15 was a glider of the student flying group Akaflieg München .
history
At the same time as the design of the Mü 17 for the competition for an Olympic standard glider, the students of Akaflieg Munich were working on an improvement of the Mü 10 "Milan" . The prototype was flown in in Ainring near Salzburg in 1940 and completed 45 hours of flight by autumn 1941, when the rudder came loose during a flight and the Mü 15 was slightly damaged during the subsequent emergency landing. Due to the war situation, the Mü 15 was not repaired and did not survive the Second World War.
construction
The high-wing , like all aircraft Akaflieg Munich at that time in the construction of the Munich school constructed. This means that he had a tubular steel fuselage and wooden wings covered with fabric . As with the Mü 10 “Milan” and the motor glider Mü 23 “Saurier”, the copilot's seat position was below the wing. As with the Mü 17, automatic rudder connections were also used in this design, which made assembly and handling easier. It also had a retractable landing gear .
A special feature of the Mü 15 was that the aileron deflections were almost ineffective. For example, curves had to be flown with the large pendulum rudder using the slide roll moment that was triggered.
variants
With the Mü 20 an improved version of the Mü 15 should be built. However, this project did not get beyond the construction phase.
