The Akaflieg Munich Mü 23 "Saurier" is a motor glider belonging to the student flying group Akaflieg Munich .
history
After the Mü 22, construction of the second project after the Second World War began in 1957. It was the second motor glider in the group after the Mü 13 “Motormerlin” and shared some constructional aspects with its predecessor, such as the copilot's seat position under the wing and the Mü-disk lift profile .
construction
According to the Munich school founded by Egon Scheibe , the motor glider is equipped with a covered tubular steel fuselage and wings made of wood. Due to the profile of the surfaces, the motor glider can take off at speeds below 50 km / h and therefore only needs short runways.
After tests with an engine from the VW Beetle 1200 and a Brändl ZB 700 engine, the “Saurier” was finally equipped with the VW 1500 N engine installed in the VW Type 3 .
use
The Akaflieg Mü 23 "Saurier" has been undergoing a major overhaul in the Akaflieg Munich workshops since 1991.
