The Akaflieg München Mü 8 was the first powered aircraft of the student flying group Akaflieg München .

history

In the case of the first motorized aircraft, which was built by students from Akaflieg Munich, the main focus was on low weight, simple manufacture and cost-effective operation. Egon Scheibe , who became a driving force in glider construction after the war , was the main designer of this aircraft too . The successful maiden flight of the single-seater took place in December 1933.

construction

The fuselage of the low- wing aircraft consists of a welded, fabric-covered tubular steel frame. The wings are braced and made of wood, with the exception of the wood-clad wing front side being covered with fabric. Initially, a 20 hp DKW engine was used as the engine, but it later had to be replaced by a 16 hp DKW engine.

variants

With the Mü 14, the students worked on a further development of the Mü 8 in 1936. A 20 hp BMW engine was to serve as the engine. The project did not get beyond the construction phase.
