The Martinson Island is a 900 m long and up to 224 m high island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is the largest and southernmost of the three Gould Islands in the southwest of Marguerite Bay .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 2009 after Douglas G. Martinson, expedition leader of the research trip with the RV Laurence M. Gould of the US National Science Foundation , during which the Gould Islands were sighted in January 2009 and their position was determined.
