Martinsplatz 1 (Kronach)
The Martinsplatz 1 building , the so-called Stone Bower , is a listed building in the old town of the Upper Franconian town of Kronach , which today serves as a fire station.
Location and description
The building is located on the south side of Martinsplatz in the north of the old town of Kronach, opposite the market square. It is a three-storey sandstone block building with a gable roof and stepped gable ; A decorative obelisk forms the end of the gable . There are two large, subsequently built-in gate entrances on the ground floor, and two rectangular window openings each on the two floors above. In the attic there is a large ogival opening, which is surrounded by three narrow, also ogival window openings.
history
The lower floors of the building were built in the 13th or 14th century, the second floor in the 14th century. In 1439 the building served as the city's first council and meeting house, and in 1444 it was first referred to as the “Burger Kempnaten”. The building has been used as a fire station since 1880. For this purpose, two large gate entrances for the fire engines were set up on the ground floor.
