Maruyama Gondazaemon ( Japanese 丸山 権 太 左衛 門 ; * December 23, 1713 in Tome in Miyagi Prefecture ; † November 14, 1749 in Nagasaki Prefecture ) was traditionally the third yokozuna in Japanese sumo wrestling .

Maruyama is said not only to have been an outstanding wrestler, but also to have had a monstrous stature for the circumstances of his time: 1.97 m and 166 kg in weight were almost unbelievable for the Edo period . Accordingly, Maruyama is said to have been appointed Ōzeki in Edo at the age of 17 and thus to have reached the highest rank in sumo. He later went to Osaka , where he is said to have been appointed yokozuna in August 1749. Before he could play a single tournament match as such, he fell victim to an epidemic . According to some sources, he died on the way to the award.

Maruyama is believed to have actually existed historically with great probability. He is still listed as the third yokozuna in the official sumo calendar. Occasionally he appears as the second yokozuna.
