Tome ( Japanese 登米 市 , -shi ) is a city in Miyagi Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .
geography
Tome is about 70 km north of Sendai , the prefecture capital. The Kitakami flows through the city.
history
The city was formed on April 1, 2005 from the communities Tome ( 登米 町 , -machi ), Tōwa ( 東 和 町 , -machi ), Nakada ( 中 田 町 , -machi ), Toyosato ( 豊 里 町 , -machi ), Yoneyama ( 米 山町 , -machi ), Hasama ( 迫 町 , -machi ), Ishikoshi ( 石 越 町 , -machi ), Minamikata ( 南方 町 , -machi ) of Tome County and Tsuyama ( 津 山 町 , -machi ) of Motoyoshi County. The Tome County was then dissolved.
