Marumori ( Japanese 丸 森 町 , -machi ) is one of 20 small towns in Miyagi Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .
geography
Marumori is located in Igu-gun County on the southern tip of Miyagi and north of Fukushima Prefecture . The Abukuma River flows through the city, which is surrounded on three sides by wooded hills and only merges into a plain in the north.
Surroundings
The nearest town is Kakuda 5 kilometers north. The Shinto shrine Kashima-jingū is located about 15 kilometers to the southwest . 10 kilometers south of the Matsugabo reservoir.

history
The place was registered as a village in 1889 and elevated to a city in 1897. In 1954, surrounding settlements were added to the Marumori-machi. In 2002 a forest fire destroyed 162 hectares on the western slope of Jirotaro Mountain; the extinguishing work for this took three days. Due to the geographical location, the Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 with a local strength of 6+ and the subsequent nuclear disaster in Fukushima caused relatively little devastating damage, although the place is only about 10 kilometers from the coast and only just outside the 50 km -Radius around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant . In 2019, a typhoon flooded a tributary of the Abukuma and led to evacuation measures.
