Marx & Lennon: The Parallel Sayings is ahumorous anthology, editedby Joey Green ,of 400 juxtaposed quotes by Groucho Marx and John Lennon , published in 2005 by Disney Hyperion .
Forewords
The book has two forewords. Yoko Ono mentions “the daring and wise remarks these two gutsy and reckless geniuses made” and Arthur Marx gives a short biography of his father and gives his opinion on The Beatles : “Because they're different and audacious. There's nobody like them. Just like the Marx Brothers when we were in our prime. That's what makes the 'greats' great. My hat's off to them - even though I stopped wearing hats some time ago. "

On the record cover of How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All? (1969) from comedian group The Firesign Theater depicts Groucho Marx and John Lennon. In imaginative Cyrillic it is titled with ДLL HДIL MДЯЖ LЭИИФИ ( All Hail Marx Lennon ) - alluding to Marx and Lenin (sounds like "Lennon" when pronounced quickly).
Based on this idea, Joey Green named his book and shows on twelve pages parallels between the actor, entertainer, singer and writer Groucho Marx and the musician, singer and writer John Lennon.
Both artists were born at the beginning of October, but separated by 50 years; both were founders - and finishers - of a four-man ensemble (which began as a five-man ensemble), in which both were "the witty one"; Both performed at sold out Carnegie Hall , both appeared twice on the cover of TIME Magazine (once with a group photo and once alone), had three children of more than one woman, won Academy Awards , had stars on the Walk of Fame , etc. etc.
The Parallel Sayings
The Parallel Sayings each comprise 400 statements from both artists, first followed by a quote from Groucho Marx, then a “parallel” from John Lennon. The quotes come from plays, films, radio and TV programs, books and biographies (Marx) and song texts, interviews, books and writings (Lennon) and are juxtaposed with no comment, but with reference to the source. Occasionally these are statements that are similar in meaning:
"I'm not feeling very well. I need a doctor immediately. Ring the nearest golf course. "
"When you're drowning, you don't say:" I would be incredibly pleased if somebody would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me ". You just scream . "
Most of the time, the quotes revolve around a specific term or a single word:
"I danced before Napoleon. No, Napoleon danced before me. In fact, he danced two hundred years before me. "
"And of course, Henry the Horse dances the waltz."

The appendix contains the acknowledgments , the bibliography (22 information for Groucho Marx, 18 information for John Lennon), 17 pages of copyright notices and a four-page, relatively incomplete keyword index for the citations.
Comments
It has been criticized that certain "Marx quotes" and "Lennon quotes" are actually related to the words of gag writers (for Marx) and lyrics by Paul McCartney (for Lennon).
