Mary Doran (born September 8, 1910 in New York City , New York ; † September 6, 1995 there ) was an American actress . In her film career, which lasted only eight years, she appeared in more than 50 films.

Life

Mary Doran grew up in her hometown of New York. She studied at Columbia University and planned a career as a teacher before her talent in tap dancing made her a member of the Ziegfeld Follies . There Doran was discovered by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1928 and taken under contract. Her debut as an actress came in the same year in the silent film Half a Bride . The first leading role followed in 1930 in the comedy Remote Control .

In the years that followed, Doran appeared in more than 50 films, including The Broadway Melody , The Woman for All, and Movie Crazy . In 1936, however, she ended her career as an actress after only eight career years.

Mary Doran was married twice: from 1932 until her divorce in 1937 to journalist Joe Sherman and from 1937 until her death to Kurtis Reifenberg. Doran continued to live in her hometown of New York, where she died on September 6, two days before her 85th birthday.
