Mary Morrissy

Mary Morrissy (* 1957 in Dublin ) is an Irish writer and journalist .

Life

Morrissy graduated from the Rathmines School of Journalism . She worked as an editor for the Irish newspaper The Irish Press in Australia . At the University of Arkansas , she taught creative writing and summer courses at the University of Iowa .

Morrissy worked as Jenny McKean Moore Writer at George Washington University in 2008/2009 . Morrissy's The Duchess earned her a place as a Cullman Fellow at the New York Public Library . The Duchess is an imaginary autobiography by Seán O'Casey's sister, Bella O'Casey. The novel was published in 2013 under the title The Rising of Bella Casey . Morrissy has worked as a creative writing lecturer at University College Cork since 2015 .

Awards

Morrissy received the Hennessy Award for a short story in 1984 and the Lannan Literary Award in 1995 . She was nominated for the 1996 Whitbread Prize . In 2015 Morrissy became a member of the Irish artists' association Aosdána .
