Mas Selamat bin Kastari (born January 23, 1961 in the administrative district of Kendal , Central Java ) was one of the most wanted refugees in Singapore for more than a year . He escaped from custody on February 27, 2008. In Singapore, his search was considered the largest manhunt in the country's history. He was not caught until April 1, 2009 in Johor Bahru , Malaysia .

Life

In January 2006, Mas Selamat was arrested by Indonesian counter-terrorism forces in Java and extradited to Singapore. He was accused of bombing the Singapore airport and, according to the Singapore police, Mas Selamat planned to carry out the attack by plane. Since then, he has been in custody - with the exception of the outbreak in 2008 to 2009 - and can be detained without a court order under Singapore law.
